Mulberry Goes Granny

By Jauretsi

One of the things I appreciate about certain fashion brands is the desire to take it back… I mean reeeeally take it back to the origin of the piece. Instead of harping backstage at glitzy fashion shows or shooting a white backdrop photo shoot, the gang at Mulberry went doc style. Their subjects are real women, and real grandmothers such as 77 year old Beatrice and a local gang of highly skilled knitters from Eribé, a Scottish knitwear design house who brought the creative Mulberry director Emma Hill’s designs to life. Each piece made for the Mulberry A/W 2012 collection was made by hand by one of these women.

The London event celebrated Beatrice by inviting her to Harrod’s (a place she’d never seen her whole life). During the fab affair, London’s Telegraph reported that Beatrice just sat in the world famous shop knitting the Aztec-inspired tassel scarf proudly on sale in the Mulberry concession.  God bless grannies worldwide.
