22 Days ‘til Christmas
How about a pair of chunky glasses? The team at Karmaloop curated this collection of frames for inspiration this holiday season.
Solange Knowles came to support Alexander Wang for his SS2014 runway show on Saturday sporting a sleek pair of animal print cat eye shades. We found a few pair of animal print Kate Spade sunglasses on eBay to get in on the meow factor.

"I am indeed a book junkie and I gravitate to all kinds of books and themes" confessed stylist Masha Orlov, whom we visited last week at her New York digs. In addition to coffeemugs and sunglasses, it seems the fashion sensei has a penchant for books.
"I dream about living in a large apartment with books covering the walls or having a room that is just a library." On her favorite topics: "I love books about music, cinema, spirituality, health, trees & plants and of course fashion, art & photography."

"I have had a fetish for glasses since I was little" says the stylist who’s worked with sharp editorial ranging from Purple to V Magazine. "I think it comes from my Jewish grandmother who used to wear the biggest, funkiest glasses."
This week, The Inside Source paid a visit to the home of Masha Orlov to see her world of objects. The stylist who’s worked with everyone from Purple Magazine to V Magazine busted out her shades collection for us.
Commenting on her addiction: “At this point, I only occasionally buy glasses because I already have soooo many. This past spring at a Paris street brocante, I saw beautiful 60s, 70s and 80s Dior, Emmanuelle Kahn and Louis Ferraud glasses but I passed them up because I already have so many vintage ones. I am more likely to give my glasses away as a present, sell them or barter them, then buy a new pair”. (Note: Masha just bartered late 70’s mens Christian Dior glasses for 3 haircuts with her favorite hairdresser.) “I am friends with the owners of the eyeglass brand Illesteva, so their glasses are my favorites to wear right now.”

Recently, I lost my favorite pair of Karen Walker shades. You’ve all been there, I know. Anyhow, I looked high and low, but couldn’t find them anywhere. Finally, I went online to replace them and realized that I didn’t feel like forking out another $250 for the same sunnies. eBay to the rescue! I hunted those puppies down and found a pair for $150. They arrived in pristine condition and I was ecstatic to have replaced them before they sold out in stores or were discontinued. Total save.

French photographer Jeanloup Sieff got his start — unofficially, of course — at the age of 14, when he was given a Photax plastic camera as a birthday gift in 1947. Thirteen years later, Sieff was traveling to the United States for his work with Glamour, Vogue, Esquire, and Harper’s Bazaar, shooting images like the one seen above. Sieff managed to capture beautiful women not merely posing, but existing in the world for a moment. There is much to learn about Sieff, and if you’ve got a craving to dig deeper, we suggest checking the link below.

Karen Walker revealed more awesomely unorthodox shades at her FW2013 show in New York. From crazy cat-eyes to oversized geometric lenses, Walker makes sunglasses for girls who wouldn’t dream of sporting something as pedestrian as a Wayfarer.

Iridescent mirrored shades started popping up a year ago on the runways but they really came into the spotlight when they were recently embraced by editors like Giovanna Battaglia and, subsequently, snapped by all the street style photographers. Polyvore is a great source for seeing what’s on the market right now (check out the options here). Sneaky shoppers that we are, we suggest scoping out your faves and then checking to see if they’re available on eBay. When it comes to an eBay search item like sunglasses, it’s best to be extremely specific in your query, otherwise you’ll end up with thousands of options that might not be right for you. Get the designer, the style name, and know the cost ahead of time. It’s a sure-fire way of getting exactly what you want… hopefully for a bargain.
