Boothrat: Eric Duncan
In our never ending search through cool DJ booths, we met up with Eric Duncan in Miami last week. He’s a respected New York figure since before spinning went digital. Representing as one half of the classic DJ/Production duo called Rub’n’Tug, he’s now exploring his solo artistry under the moniker “Dr Dunks”. In his many incarnations and partnerships, Eric has remixed tons of songs for bands such as The Beastie Boys, Cold Play, Grace Jones, Zero 7, and LCD Soundsystem (this is only a partial list by the way). Recently, The Inside Source caught up with Dr. Dunks to peek into his crates. One of them is a remix for Bryan Ferry. “It’s an official remix work in progress” says the well connected mix master, “I’m not sure what label it’s gonna be on. The artist contacted me directly.” Here’s a cheat sheet of the master at work:
1. The Rhythm Odyssey & Dr. Dunks - “Circles” - Golf Channel Records
2. Harari - “Party” (Dr Dunks Extension) - A&M Records
[MORE]
3. Roni Griffith - “Mondo Man” (Dr Dunks Version) - Vanguard Disco
4. Bryan Ferry - “Don’t Stop the Dance” (Dr Dunks Mix)
5. TV Baby - “New York is All Right, If you Like Saxophones” (Dunks Downtown Mix) - Rong Music (not yet released)

Chanel Throws a Beach Party
By Jauretsi
Last night, Chanel went homestyle with a chic Barbecue bonanza and quite possibly the best party of the week (although the week is still young). Cohosted by Art.sy, the bash took place in a tent behind Soho House Miami Beach with a gaggle of fabulous folks like Pharrell Williams, Damien Hirst, and Lenny Kravitz (yes, even Martha Stewart showed up to the beachside gathering). Me? I was tucked away in a booth with cool queen of the web, Sophia Amoruso of Nasty Gal bopping our heads to DJ Nick Cohen’s eclectic mash up set including “Girls” by Beastie Boys to ”Somethings Gotta Hold on Me” by Etta James. It wasn’t until Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” dropped that we noticed a fellow lady with great legs stand up and let loose to tear the rug. Go Demi!

Tough Girls at Mara Hoffman’s Show
Mara Hoffman blew our socks off with her new collection. The pieces were presented in the glorious Raleigh Hotel during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2013 in Miami Beach. Her usual tribal patterns and other worldly trademarks were delivered this time with a rebel punch. Mara shares a bit of her inspiration with us.
Jauretsi: Hope you enjoyed Swim Week in Miami recently. You have presented previous years, how did this year feel different than the others?
Mara Hoffman: I feel for us, personally, it was fun because we have our game on down there and we’ve built up a confidence with showing there.

Q: For this new collection, what would you say is the main narrative of inspiration you hand in mind when creating it?
Desert Outlaw Gypsies.
Q: In terms of beach essentials, what are the top 5 things in your beach bag when you hit the beach?
Sunscreen, water, a huge sarong/scarf, something good to read, snacks
Q: If there was music assigned to play as a soundtrack to your new collection, what would it be?
We were feeling MIA’s “Bad Girls” for this one.

Tori Praver Hits Miami
Last week was the veritable “Fashion Week of Bathing Suits” in Miami presented by Mercedez Benz (the same sponsors that put on prestigious New York Fashion Week). The best in swimwear flock down to the beach for a long weekend of fashion shows, presentations, and parties on the sand.
Maui beach babe and designer Tori Praver presented her latest collection, Swimwear Resort 2013. I caught up with her at The Webster Hotel, namely because I was DJ’ing (lucky me). Secretly, I accepted the gig to take a peek at her new goods. This year, Tori’s mantra is [MORE] all about letting go and being carried by the wind. I’ll let her explain it better.
Jauretsi: Hope you enjoyed Swim Week in Miami? You have presented previous years, how did this year feel different than the others?
Tori Praver: Every year is better because I feel that my collection is stronger each year. It’s also nice to feel more established in the industry. Each year I meet so many people, it’s really nice to see so many familiar faces when I’m in Miami for swim week. It’s always a little like a family reunion.
Q: For this new collection, what would you say is the main narrative of inspiration you had in mind when creating it?
The title of my new collection is “Ventis Scopis” which is latin for wind swept. For me, this sums up the way I feel about my life. Being wind swept and going wherever the wind takes me. With this feeling I was inspired by muted tones and prints that represent the words themselves. Whether it’s a palm tree, a wing, a feather, or just the feeling of the wind when you’re laying on the beach… these things all go back to “Ventis Scopis” is my eyes.
Q: In terms of beach essentials, what are the top 5 things in your beach bag when you hit the sand?
Sunscreen, Water, Sunglasses, Hat, and a good magazine or book
Q: If there was music assigned to play as a soundtrack to your new collection, what would it be?
I’m loving Little Dragon at the moment and feel like her most recent album Ritual Reunion really respresents my feelings and inspiration associated with my new collection. It’s a super mellow vibe that makes me feel calm and relaxed.
