I Spy: Flamingo
With summer on the approach, we’re dreaming of white sandy beaches, the shortest of shorts, and anything associated with sunshine. Maybe that’s why we’re seriously crushing on this bit of flamingo wall art. Inspired, we trolled through eBay for all things “pink bird.” You’ve got your flamingo lawn ornaments, shower curtains, and more flamingo printed fabric than you’d know what to do with.

Into the Blue
Forget everything anyone ever told you about using a neutral palate when you’re decorating. The dark blue walls seen here, paired with a sofa of a similar shade, create a dark coziness perfectly suitable for a reading nook or a library (if you’re so fortunate to have one). Brightening up the space here, literally and figuratively, is accomplished with a BL-3 floor lamp by Robert Dudley Best for Gubi. The Bestlite is an iconic silhouette that has been in use since the 1930s. You can find some classic examples of these on eBay.

Roundabout
Though Emilio Pucci’s artistic director reportedly flies back and forth between Paris and Florence for work everyday, Peter Dundas still keeps a pretty impressive pad near the Pucci headquarters just in case. Seen here is the gorgeous wooden staircase in his 15th-century palazzo apartment. Now that’s something we wish we could find on eBay.

I Spy: Sleigh Bed
The arched wooden frame of a sleigh bed was something a few of us over at The Inside Source were very familiar with growing up. So when we started digging around eBay on the hunt for one, we were surprised to find that sleigh beds are actually rare! What to do in instances such as these? Set up your eBay Feed, which will automatically add your new query to your other coveted items whenever they are put up for sale. Patience is a virtue, friends!

I Spy: Ladder Love
When piecing your home together, consider a ladder to be more than just getting from Point A to Point B. The properly aged ladder can also serve as a visual break in a room, possibly holding magazines or fabrics or even acting as shelves (if the steps are thick). We recommend searching eBay for “alder ladders“ or “antique ladders.” Dig deeper with words like “barn” or “oak” to discover a few gems you can re-purpose for your new home.

Bit of Stuff
Need some new kitsch to decorate your apartment? Here’s some inspiration for you, as modeled by the lovely Chloe Sevigny. Whenever looking for the unique and one-of-a-kind, rest assured eBay has it. After a quick bit of research, we found this hand-painted Japanese dog figurine, as well as this wide-eyed owl. And if you want to think a little bit outside of the box (just trust us here), check out the selection of very cool porcelain donkeys.

I Spy: NYC Map
Okay, so it doesn’t look like that much actual work happens at this adorable little desk setup, but it does serve as a fine display for some great odds and ends. You’ve got your butterfly collection, a taxidermied bird, a minty vintage lamp, and that large map of New York. We did some digging on eBay and found this map from 1945 in pristine condition, ready for framing and hanging above your own workspace.

The Concrete Jungle

It’s remarkable when a person can make a home that looks a bit like the inside of a parking garage feel like a place you’d want to live in. Berlin-based architect Arno Brandlhuber has managed to work out an aesthetic within his home/office that involves haphazardly thrown rugs, deep leather sofas, and a whole lot of books. We think Brandlhuber would approve of this midcentury sofa we found on eBay, as well as these books on modern architecture

The Richard Neutra Kronish House
Austrian American architect Richard Neutra left behind him a legacy of beautiful modernist buildings, a great deal of them in Southern California. As you can imagine, owning a Neutra house is quite the status symbol. Occasionally, however, the work of this celebrated architect is in jeopardy. His Kronish House (seen here) was actually days from being torn down until Stavros Niarchos purchased it last year with promises to restore it. To brush up on your Neutra knowledge, check out eBay’s assortment of classic Neutra design books.

I Spy: Pedro Friedeberg
Best known for his “hand chair” (seen above right), Mexican designer and artist Pedro Friedeberg is a master at incorporating surrealist principles with functional design. In fact, along with Frida Kahlo, the two were the only Mexican artists recognized by Andre Breton as members of the Surrealist movement. It’s amazing to us that you can actually find these chairs on eBay, believe it or not. For just $4,400, you can scoop up a pair. If that’s too rich for your blood, there’s some amazing lithographs for you to sift through. And remember, if you plan on buying, make sure to ask the seller if it’s signed. You can read Friedeberg’s own efforts against fakes here.
