Insta-Peep-o-Gram: Halloween

By Jauretsi

The glorious day has come and gone. Happy Post Halloween! Here’s a peephole into some cool folk who did it their way. Style Editor Rosie Dargenzio thanked Pippa Lord for guidance on the “severed finger cookies” (bottom left). Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso captured a brief look at the tools of the trade while Bonfire Beach Kids proudly presented their pumpkin display. We hope everyone had a special day.

Halloween Outfit: ET’s Magical Bike Ride

By Jauretsi

If you’re undecided on clever Halloween outfits, allow eBay to help you order and ship to your doorstep in 24-48 hours. For example, its possible to whip up this iconic “ET savior moment” when the precious alien gets protected by his good friend, Elliot. All the staples are available on eBay including the Red Hoodie Sweatshirt by Northface ($21), the BMX Bike ($119) and it’s Milkcrate ($9.99). Of course the look wouldn’t be complete without the cute little plushie ET doll wrapped in a white towel (only $10).

The outfit is clever for teenage boys looking to trick or treat in the suburbs with friends, and lends itself to “the group outfit” element since Elliot had a pack of boys bike riding behind him. It’s equally humorous for a grown man to imitate the man-child while driving through urban parties areas on his bike. We just love a practical Halloween outfit.

Catherine Deneuve: Scary Yet So Stylish
By Jauretsi
This Halloween, if you want to pass on the chaotic parties, rent yourself Roman Polanski’s 1965 classic, Repulsion. Catherine Deneuve plays a repressed Belgian manicurist left alone in a London apartment by her sister and creepy boyfriend. What ensues is a series of hallucinations, uncontrollable demons, and the evolution of beautiful woman gone stark mad.
The gradual intensity of the jazz score (by Chico Hamilton) sets against the moodiness of black and white film (created by the same cinematographer who made Dr. Strangelove)… [MORE] It’s the Fashionista’s perfect Halloween gift with a few DVD’s available on eBay starting at $10. For the die hard Deneuve fans, get yourself the classic Repulsion movie poster as well. All New Yorkers will be happy to know that The Film Forum will be screening the new 35 MM Print in the big apple on October 31st, running through November 8th.

C’mon, Get Clever!
By Jenny Bahn
There is nothing less inspiring than walking into your local Halloween shop to buy a cookie-cutter costume. Rows upon rows feature the same handful of bagged outfits, ensuring that you and everyone else who didn’t have enough time to whip something up are dressed exactly the same… [MORE]
With Halloween, a little bit of effort makes all the difference. Buying vintage is a great way to put together a fantastic and unique costume, even if you’re planning on dressing up as something everyone has seen before. Want to be a flapper girl? There are some amazing options on eBay right now, like this delicate 1920s Art Deco dress in green. Or — if you really want to go for it — there’s this absolute showstopper: a gold beaded dress currently priced around $300 (it’s worth it, trust me). And if you’ve been thinking about being a witch, there’s this black velvet dress from the 90s. All you need is a pointed hat and some black boots.
Remember, there are only a few days left before the big day. If you’re looking to buy something online, make sure to get shipping expedited!

Childhood Halloween

By Jauretsi

There’s nothing more I love than bumping into an old box of a friend’s childhood photos. In this case, Jewelry Designer and model Manon Von Gerkan documents her upbringing (from birth til modern day) on a website she founded with friends, HereWeGoNow, highlighting cool New York creatives. Manon’s trip down memory lane is a section is called Looking Back. Photographers Gerald Foster contribute alongside Vanessa Ly and Lucie Kim. Altogether it’s a platform for visual storytelling with no agenda, other than make you feel good. I can honestly say these old school Halloween pics make me feel warm and fuzzy.
