Postcards from China: Steven Alan
Steven Alan was recently in China to celebrate eBay’s launch out there. We asked him to pinpoint a new obsession he was inspired by. He tipped us off to this very cool traditional Chinese teapot. It’s an antique Chinese pewter Yixing teapot with jade signage. Following his lead, we’re now scouring eBay for more antique teapots, which make the cutest home adornments. We’d also like to remind you that the Steven Alan eBay Holiday Collective bags are in short supply, but still available for a limited time only. Take one for yourself and for a friend this Christmas.

5 Days to Christmas: Aisha Sharpe

Aisha is a pro beverage consultant in NYC. She tended bar at New York’s Soho House and soon became a sought-after mixologist for places like The Breslin in Manhattan. She also served as the knowledgeable judge on NBC’s On The Rocks: The Search for America’s Top Bartender. We asked Aisha if she could have anything rushed to her doorstep in exactly one hour (using the eBay Now app) what would she get?

“Things I have needed in an hour professionally are glasses for booze and vessels of different varieties for holding large amounts of cocktails, garnishes, etc.” She adds a lil’ fashion item. “Personally, I think I would love to be able to get a good pair of jeans in an hour.”

If ordered on the eBay Now app (deliveries are within New York City and San Francisco currently), the liquor mix-master would be able to order several Igloo 12-Qt Ice Cube Blue coolers via the eBay/Target store for $17.99 and some Kirby Cordial glasses from eBay/Crate & Barrel for $8.95. For good measure, she could throw in some J Brand jeans from either Bloomingdale’s ($169) or Saks Fifth Avenue ($176) stores on eBay. Each item has a $5 delivery charge. Remember, eBay takes $20 off all first orders! Isn’t it time you used eBay now for all your Christmas shopping asap?

Postcards from China: Steven Alan’s Morning
By Jauretsi
Designer Steven Alan recently flew out to China for eBay’s big launch this month. Here’s the most awe-inspiring morning shot of Beijing from the man himself. When asked which Chinese phrase he mastered, Steven responded, “Thank you, I am full” or “謝謝,我飽了.” Remember, there’s only a few more Steven Alan-designed eBay Holiday Collective goodies left. Perfect stocking stuffers.

7 Days to Christmas: Director Gabriel Stanley

Gabriel Stanley spends his days directing videos for clients like Lanvin to WWD, and making music with his band, Spooky. We asked him what he would order with the new eBay Now app (which delivers anything to your doorstep in 1 hour). ”If I was stuck in a shoot and needed an Apple USB Super Harddrive, I would get it ordered to the set asap” he mentions first. “I’m also a musician, so if I was at a gig and needed an emergency save, I’d hop onto the app and search Guitar Center for a Guitar Amp.” Good thinking Gabe.

Too good to be true? Just download the eBay Now app yourself, and just let your fingers start searching for items. If you order before Dec 22nd, all delivery fees are free and git wrapped in Holiday Jonathan Adler wrapping paper. Remember, you can shop til midnight! Also, if you place your first order before Dec 31st, eBay will take 20% off.

It’s a Small World

Okay, so you want to build a terrarium. You’re going to need a few things. First, find a container. Do you want something round? Cylindrical? Re-purposed? Second, you’ll need your plants. Which plants you choose depend on the closure of your container. Succulents will not thrive in a closed-off terrarium; they don’t need humidity like other plants. If you want to keep your miniature garden living for more than a week, you’ll have to do your research. Thirdly, you must have a good drainage base. And last, you’ve got to have the right kind of soil. The devil is certainly in the details and we’re here to point you in the right direction. TheLittleBlog.com has a great step-by-step description for your D.I.Y. terrarium. And when it comes to supplies, eBay most definitely has you covered. From glass containers to air plants to soil to succulents, you’ll find everything you need online.

Homemade Christmas Cards
From the mind of markwickens, here’s a visual inspiration to finish up those holiday cards, even if you need to hand draw them yourself. In fact, we prefer the handmade ones. If you like these instead, visit the multi-disciplinary designer based in San Francisco at Mark Wickens store to pick some up for yourself. To make your own Holiday gifts, visit the arts & crafts section of eBay to get your own “creative self” on.

Fancy Friends
By Jenny Bahn
If you’re still stumped on holiday gift ideas, consider the cheeseboard. No, not just any cheeseboard will do. Think artisanal. Think rough-hewn, work-of-art topped with Brie. When buying simple, seemingly run-of-the-mill gifts, you must make sure they are special, worthy of your fanciest friends. Check out these unique pieces made of olive wood, produced by Oliv Art and sold on eBay, or this one, made by Hawthorne and Wren. If you’re not one for wood, Dwell sells a great board made of slate, with the added bonus of being chalk-friendly so you can denote which cheese is which.

Fishing for Ideas
By Jenny Bahn
Dads can be the hardest to shop for. I feel they fall into two categories: the sweater-wearing, cufflink-using variety or the rugged outdoorsman. My dad falls into the latter group; you’ll never see him wearing a cashmere cardigan or stocking his library with the latest Philip Roth tome. No, he’d prefer some hunting gear or a new pair of Sorrels. This year, I’m looking into updating his fishing arsenal — maybe a rod and reel, some flashy new lures, or a cool new bag. eBay really is a one-stop shop for everything. Happy holiday hunting!
