Focus On: Harley Viera Newton
Harley Viera Newton is one of those multihyphenate New Yorkers who you’re sure has given up sleep to accomplish everything they have in such a short amount of time. The model and DJ — a dual career path that makes sense given her father’s time in the music biz and her mother’s former career as a model herself — has worked for some of the top labels, in front of the camera and behind the decks. Both gorgeous and talented, she was a perfect fit for Dior, who made her the in-house DJ for Dior Beauty, as well as an ambassador of the brand.
Luckily for us, last night Harley spun at an event celebrating eBay’s My Gadgets, which lets you catalogue your tech collections and find out how much each item is worth. Which gadgets would end up in Harley’s catalogue? Technics headphones and 1200 turntables, an iPhone 5, the famed Tetris Nintendo 64 game. The list goes on. (Don’t worry, you can find all of them below with links to buy them yourself). We asked Miss Newton about what gadgets keep her on-time, on-target, and, most importantly, having a great time.
Jenny Bahn: You do so many things. If you could describe your busy lifestyle in one sentence, what would it be?
Harley Viera Newton: It’s a balance of everything I love!
JB: Favorite memory as a kid playing video games?
HVN: I definitely remember many hours spent on the Nintendo 64 with friends. It was all about Mario Kart and Mario Party. Oh, and Pokemon Snap.
JB: What’s your favorite part of photography?
HVN: Looking back at the photos a few years later. There’s nothing better than flipping through a box of #TBTs.
JB: Favorite types of camera to shoot with and why?
HVN: I love my Contax T3. It’s a compact and easy point and shoot but the quality of the photos is stunning.
JB: Are you an Apple junkie like the rest of us? What are your fave products and why?
HVN: Definitely a devoted Apple user! I now use my MacBook Air to DJ which has been a major game changer travel wise — it made me my retire my iPad. But the iPhone is obviously an essential, too.
Harley’s full list of fave gadgets include: Nintendo 64, iPad, Pioneer 600, MacBook Air, Kindle, Crosley record player, vintage Contax camera, Nintendo 64 games (Mario Kart, Zelda, Tetris, vintage binoculars, tabletop telescope, vintage RCA Victor Tabletop Record Player.
Espionage is Red Haute
By Sade Lythcott
From spy movies breaking box office records to CIA scandals rocking the nation, it seems like you can’t turn on the tele or pick up a newspaper without hearing about some form of espionage. It got me thinking, How did the top secret world become so red haute? My burning curiosity got me digging through eBay looking for spy gadgets, sifting through everything from invisible ear pieces to nifty camera watches. Eventually, my searches led to the mother lode of spy chic: classic James Bond posters. There it was, in vivid Technicolor, the root of our obsessions with spies. To further this obsession, eBay’s got all of the Bond DVD offerings a fan could hope for.
