Josh Goot
Firmly focused on bold colors and strong silhouettes, Sydney-based designer Josh Goot recalls the work of Balenciaga and Christopher Kane — not bad comparisons to earn, really. He has long been on the radar for fashion insiders like blogger Elin Kling and model Miranda Kerr, but isn’t necessarily a household name in the States yet. If you’re having a hard time finding Goot’s wares at the stores back home, there are a handful of his kaleidoscopic-print party dresses on eBay right now. Check it out.

Animal Spirit: The Shark
In our series, Animal Spirit, we believe that spring is a good time to explore the shark energy. Those who wear shark pieces connect with the idea of being “masters at survival.” As elegant authorities in the ocean, they also possess incredibly razor-sharp focus to get what they want. To vibe with this goal-driven and determined spirit, keep some shark teeth lying around your home, or be bold and rock a shark T-shirt.

Dita’s Tips on Packing
“Before I go on a trip,” says Dita Von Teese to The Coveteur, “I put on some music and I try on outfits until I come up with good looks, and hang them up on a rolling rack and count out how many days I’m going for. I’m very specific. I try to figure out what I’m wearing each day and I bring outfits that I know work, things that I know I love to wear.” Now if we can only find a way to buy that hot pink silk robe! In the meantime, here’s a selection of pink kimonos and silk robes to emulate this steamy ensemble.

Happy Birthday, Audrey!

The Inside Source would like take a moment of silence to honor Audrey Hepburn. Last week, May 4th, was her birthday. Born in 1929, we lost the screen legend in 1993 but her spirit lives with us forever… as well as with every curious and lost city girl channeling Holly Golightly (the original Carrie Bradshaw).

“My friend bought me this vintage snakeskin purse from ’30s or ’40s last year. GORGEOUS condition… was like new. My puppy got to it and damaged the side of the bag.” — eBay seller Bearknapp, March 21, 2010

Of all the actresses and models last night attempting to stick to the Fashion theme at The Met Ball, we believe Rooney Mara straddles the line of punk and high fashion the best. To view her cross-pollination stripes, check out her W Magazine spread photographed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino in 2011. The girl can still rock a dark lipstick! Here’s Rooney wearing a Givenchy dress on Monday at The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.

I Spy: All Things Jenna

Sold back in 2011, this Park Slope townhouse once belonging to J. Crew Creative Director Jenna Lyons continues to be a source of inspiration to us over at The Inside Source. The home — which will forever live in our hearts and on the web — is rife with design ideas: dark walls with stark white bedding, antelope horns, cheery splashes of color, and a pretty epic crystal chandelier in the living room. We’ll have to wait and see how Lyons decorates her future digs for new inspiration. Until then, follow the links to the items above on eBay and you can starting living a la Lyon.

David Hamilton
Best known for his images of young women, British-born French photographer David Hamilton has been as critically acclaimed as he’s been critically received. That being said, his dreamy, soft-focused images have been found everywhere from the pages of Vogue to Elle. Despite personal opinions of Hamilton’s work, he has been a mainstay in both the fashion and art worlds, with images that evoke a strong narrative and unique point of view. To dig through the David Hamilton archives yourself, head on over to eBay for a selection of photography books and a handful of collectible prints.

The party of the year finally happened in New York. The fashion assignment at the Met ball this year? Punk. You decide if Anna “went there”. The Atlantic Wire delves into the corresponding exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute and the varied opinions on this topic. They also featured a radical image of Anna intended for the cover New York Magazine (which changed last second due to the Boston tragedy). Take a look at the scrapped Wintour cover here. Here’s the power editor last night at the Met Ball looking chic as ever in her Chanel gown.

Vive en Verde
We’ll admit it: The first thing we thought of when we saw this green blazer was the PGA’s Masters Tournament, but who can argue with anything supermodel Alana Zimmer sports off duty? She is routinely rocking the most classic and grown-up of styles, preferring longer hemlines and button-up shirts. You might have to do some digging, but start off your search for “emerald blazer” on eBay. To narrow things down a bit, try searching for specific designers like Dior, YSL, or more contemporary stores like Zara. You never know what you might find!
