A Chat with Jon Rose

This week we launched a special two week partnership between eBay and Waves for Water to help aid victims of hurricane Sandy, which occurred exactly one year ago. There is still, however, LOTS of work to be done.

Here’s how it works: From now until November 13, eBay Now (our local delivery service within an hour) will match the value of your order with a donation to Waves for Water up to a total value of $50,000.

To help eBay donate these funds to Waves for Water, just purchase something on eBay Now in the next two weeks, and use the promo code W4W2013 at checkout (free delivery, too!).

We spoke to Waves for Water founder, Jon Rose, to find out a little more about the cause…

Jauretsi: Tell us how far we’ve come 1 year after Hurricane Sandy in terms of relief work and the needs of the community?

Jon Rose: We as an organization have come a long way way since the onset of the Hurricane. What started out as a grass roots relief initiative has now affected an estimated 350,000 people. In terms of the disaster as a whole - the simplest stat that I think represents the scope of what still needs to be done - 26k families are still not in their homes. So though there has been immense progress across the board, there is still a long way to go before these communities are fully back on their feet.

J: eBay is excited to be a part of this initiative the next 2 weeks with Waves4Water. Is there a plan of action for new funds collected?

JR: Yes, these funds have been designated to help faciliate 5 families through our restore/rebuild program (between New York and New Jersey) and get them back into their homes. The primary focus is on costs associated with the structural restoration of their homes — for example, carpentry, sheetrock/insulation, plumbing, electrical, and so on.

J: Here’s a little eBay Now quiz experiment: If there is any one item you can personally use RIGHT NOW (within the hour), what would your order be?

JR: I could really use a new pair of headphones! One of my earbuds just broke and I NEED my tunes, man! This one ear sound just ain’t cutting it!

The Anniversary of Sandy: eBay Now Joins Forces with Waves for Water

It’s been exactly one year since Hurricane Sandy devastated large swaths of the East Coast. Waves for Water, an organization that creates clean water for communities and other relief work, has been on the ground since day one. There’s much more work to be done, however. For the next two weeks, eBay Now will be supporting WFW by providing funds to help affected families get back into their homes.

Here’s how it works: From now until November 13, eBay Now will match the value of your order with a donation to Waves for Water up to a total value of $50,000. What’s eBay Now? If you live in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, or San Jose, eBay Now can deliver products from local stores straight to your doorstep in about an hour.

To help eBay donate these funds to Waves for Water, just purchase something on eBay Now in the next two weeks, and use the promo code W4W2013 at checkout (free delivery, too!).

Some ladies prefer to wander fashion week with the effortless style of sneakers and T-shirt, such as this passerby on Thursday (as seen in Huffington Post). We vote yes to comfort and beauty. Did we mention her snazzy Richard Chai designed tote bag for eBay
