Tomoko Sugimoto Visits New York

Who are these curious little children floating in water colors, acrylics and cotton thread embroidery? Meet the creations of artist Tomoko Sugimoto, a Tokyo native who is presenting her first solo show in Manhattan next week, entitled Turn Around And Around, Then Around.

After traveling the world with the legendary Takashi Murakami studio as his Painting Director, Tomoko has developed a hybrid of influences through her own prisms. The narrative of her work is a touch of the “Eastern” storyline becoming the “Western” surface treatment… culminating into a truly emotive expression. Props to Curator Osiel Rojas for bringing the emerging artist to the forefront.

View her work opening night, this Wednesday, November 6th at No Romance Galleries on 373 Broadway, Suite 204, Tribeca. Times: 7-10 pm.

New Charli XCX “SuperLove” Video

Pop princess Charli XCX takes to the streets of Tokyo with director Ryan Andrews for her latest track, “SuperLove.” With dancing robots, technicolor arcades, and motorcycle gangs, they’ve pulled out all the stops on this one, pushing the 21-year-old Brit one step closer to the mainstream.

Acne Studios Opens in Tokyo

By Jenny Bahn

To the delight of those craving Sweden’s favorite fashion-meets-rock-and-roll brand a little further from home, Acne Studios has just opened their first flagship store in Asia. Located in the Aoyama district of Tokyo, the shop was designed to be a “home within a store.” And who wouldn’t want their home to look like this? Acne, with their signature dusty rose shopping bags, has been routinely able to imbue the feminine with the masculine, and vice versa. Never one to shy away from softer shades, the store works with an adept combination of pastels and faded jewel tones, like a castle left to bleach in the sun. Interior designers, take note.
