Grace Kelly Loved to Travel
By Jauretsi
Grace Kelly was the epitome of a jet-setter. Here she is, soaking the rays while filming To Catch a Thief on the luxurious shores of Monaco. If you’re living in cold parts of the US, it’s best to plot a warm trip for yourself and run for the sun this holiday season. Luckily, eBay’s Holiday Collection 2012, which is officially available today, offers an array of travel items, including Billy Reid’s set of sensible totes, bags, and jacket bags. The whole Billy Reid collection can be viewed here, along with additional recommended items for an island escape. To view individual photos of the entire collection, including pieces from our other six designers (Fallon, Chris Benz, Jonathan Adler, Ruffian, Steven Alan, and Tibi), visit here. Get these limited edition items while they’re hot. We expect these very affordable pieces to disappear before you get on that airplane heading south. AVAILABLE NOW!

Animal Spirit: The Penguin
By Jauretsi
This Holiday season, we look to the Penguin as our animal spirit to observe. Luckily eBay’s Holiday Collection offers just that. But first, what is an animal totem? They are animals that appear in your life (whether its on TV, or a strangers clothing, or in the wild). Animal spirits choose their owner, and offer spiritual guidance if we understand their instinctual behaviors and natural habitats. The penguin is a powerful symbol to have in your life representing respect, love and strength in character. Their black and white uniform suggests formality which lends to their leadership qualities. Because they move swiftly from water to land, it is believed that the penguin totem teaches connection between the physical and the spiritual. If you find yourself surrounded by penguin reminders in your day, you may be blessed with lucid dreaming or astral projecting.

If you find yourself drawn to this animal, it is advised to surround yourself with little visual reminders. Tibi, one of eBay’s seven Holiday Collection Designers created some cozy wintery penguin sweaters in her collection available November 12, 2012. Tibi’s penguin inspired collection normally sells for $375 retail, but eBay’s limited edition series of Tibi penguin sweaters will cost you only $75. Inspiration from other retailers include christmas ornaments, slippers, broaches, or pillows. Embrace the regal penguin, and he’ll take care of you in return.

As one of the seven designers for eBay’s Holiday Collection 2012, Tibi created some adorable items she describes as “cozy, cool, and feminine for a wintery holiday night.” The grey and black sweatshirt series even has a little wink towards the lovable penguin. Christmas in July with our eBay Holiday Designers
By Jauretsi
This week, eBay finally revealed the new product freshly announced last week with a party for friends and family in the media and designer world. The exclusive eBay Holiday Collective event revealed product the room adorned with wooden reindeers, white lights, and clever displays. “We love Christmas in July!” gushed Ruffian, one of the Collective designers. We do too, so why not get into the cheer early? I was lucky enough to DJ the event spinning classics like Carla Thomas’ “Gee Whiz its Christmas” while the team of designers — Chris Benz, Tibi, Steven Alan, Ruffian, Billy Reid, Jonathan Adler and Fallon— worked the room and dipped into the Peppermint eclairs and Gingerbread Chocolate Macaroons from Dominique Ansel Bakery. It was a night of toasting glasses and [MORE] checking out fine goods.
For just a few hours on Wednesday night, we all forgot about the summer heat wave sizzling outside the Fashion District doors. Speaking of supporting the Fashion District, you’ll be happy to know that 100% of our collection was created in the US. The Limited Edition exclusive Capsule Collection drops on eBay November 12, 2012, so set your watches. Til then, start making your wish lists!

eBay Holiday Capsule Collection Designers: Tibi
In our continuing series of eBay Holiday Designers, we’ve interviewed four out of the seven designers so far — Ruffian, Billy Reid, Steven Alan, and Chris Benz — to be sold exclusively on eBay this November. Today we’d like to introduce our first female Q&A from this series, a designer named Amy Smilovic. Amy is the visionary behind the brand, Tibi. This year, her Lobster dress is turning heads. We recently visited Amy at the Tibi Showroom.
Jauretsi: If you had to describe a day in the life of your customer, how would they spend the day ideally?
Amy Smilovic: Our Tibi customer is a woman who is on-the-go. She wakes up, rolls out of bed, spends 15 minutes getting ready and walks out the door looking effortlessly chic. She has brunch at The Dutch, heads cross-town to Chelsea for… [MORE] some gallery hopping, breaks with an artisanal treat at Terroir’s outpost on the HighLine, and then heads back downtown for some designer shopping in Nolita and SoHo. In the evening, she’s dining alfresco on the Lower East Side.
Q: When did you first realize you wanted to become a designer?
I come from a family of artists so I knew early on that art and design would be an important part of my life. In my mid-teens/early 20’s, I started to develop my own sense of style and viewpoint. Early on, I learned that inspiration is all around you —- paying attention to details is key. Over time, I became increasingly intrigued with starting my own business. When my husband and I moved to Hong Kong in 1997, I had all of these amazing fabric, design and factory resources right at my fingertips. The stars were aligned.
Q: Do you have a specific “aha find” on eBay? What was the item?
I waited too long to buy the most amazing pair of Alaia’s that I was coveting, so by the time I got around to it they were sold out. I scoured eBay for months, literally, and was so beyond excited when I found them for sale in my size. It was a big moment.
Q: What are your top 3 fav holiday movies?
Miracle on 34th Street is a classic. And I never get tired of Elf and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, both hilarious.
Q: In terms of online searches, what do you recommend is the most savvy thing or genre to search for on eBay?
I love looking for unique furniture pieces on eBay. Since this is such a broad category, it is very important to know the keywords for each era or style. So, for example, if you’re looking for mid-century modern pieces, “MCM” or “Eames” are very useful to know. The more specific you can be, the more successful the search will be.
Q: What is your favorite thing about 2012 so far?
Tibi’s Resort collection. BUT, if we’re taking work out of it, I just got back from the most amazing family vacation in Capri, Italy, that probably takes the cake.
Q: What is your “go to” get away spot for the holidays? What essential items do you pack in your bags on that escape end of year?
My husband and I take our sons down to Sea Island, Georgia, every year to be with my parents. It’s not unbearably cold, but cool enough that you feel like you’re experiencing the holiday season. My packing essentials are oversize chunky sweaters, R13 jeans, a cashmere throw, wool angora socks and Bobbi Brown hydrating cream.

Introducing Seven Designers for eBay’s First Holiday Capsule Collection
"I am obsessed with eBay" says Jonathan Adler, one of the seven designers we’re obsessed with too, so we created a unique capsule collection to be sold exclusively on eBay this Holiday season. Today we’re proud to announce this group collaboration, a first for the eBay family. Here’s the dream team (Top left, clock-wise): Ruffian, Chris Benz, Billy Reid, Tibi, Jonathan Adler, Fallon and Steven Alan.
There is a total of 40+ items in the collection, to be sold at a “Buy it Now” fixed price (instead of auction pricing). The best part is all items are under $100. Did we mention free… [MORE] shipping for US and International? Keep reading The Inside Source the next two weeks as we’ll be asking each designer about their Holiday inspirations and to show us a peek at their unique goodies. Why these seven designers? It seems each one has their own particular love affair with the eBay closet.
"I’m an avid eBay shopper" says Billy Reid who dips into the vast site to buy pretty things for his home. The designer duo Ruffian use the site as a design resource to develop their "virtual fashion archive". Then there’s Steven Alan. "I’ve always been crazy about tech stuff" gushes Alan, who uses eBay for much different reasons. Back in 1996, Steven was combing eBay for the first ever flip phone, Motorola’s Star TAC. "I was obsessing over it" confesses Steven. There goes that word again. OBSESS. Aww, we feel the same way about each one of them.
Keep your eyes peeled on November 12, 2012, when the Collection drops on eBay. This is just the beginning of a series of Holiday love you’ll see from this creative collective. Stay tuned for more.
