Ryan’s Charm
By Jauretsi
If you’re unfamiliar with Ryan McGinley’s work, his collection of nudie friend photos have been described as introducing a whole new movement of New York youth culture. Levi’s felt the same and hired Ryan to create their campaigns (clothed of course). His latest exhibit “Animals” created major buzz this Spring. The youngest person to exhibit a solo show at The Whitney Museum of American Art, Ryan is on the zeitgeist. Writer Indigo Clarke had a conversation with photographer Ryan McGinley on getting naked. I love it when eBay gets a natural “shout-out” with minds I respect the most.
“About three years ago I bought this little gold charm that says, ‘Let’s get naked’, on eBay, and I wear it … [MORE] every day. I’ve been giving out 18-karat replicas of the charm, with my name engraved on the back, to my models and interns for a few years now. For the past four summers, I’ve travelled across the United States shooting for three months – It’s quite an epic road-trip experience with a production crew and models, who are always friends, or friends of friends. The charm is really to commemorate this fantastic journey we’ve been on together.” —  Indigo Clarke for Another Magazine
