In Development: Allie Lewis

Welcome to “In Development,” where The Inside Source explores the constantly changing world of the modeling world’s newest, brightest stars. Meet Allie Lewis, an adorable spirit with an innocent grace and a natural ease. At 18 and with two years of the industry under her belt, Lewis has that treasured cheekiness that some girls never master. We’ll be keeping an eye on this young lady.

Atmospheric

There’s nothing quite like being at a runway show. The cameras flashing, the music that rattles the walls, the beautiful people in beautiful clothes — it really is a sight to be seen. For those of us who can’t make the fashion circuit, there are photographers who do a pretty bang-up job making sure we feel like we’re there. Style.com has picked their favorite “atmospheric” shots from last season. You can check them all out here.

Model Moment: Meg Collison
We expressed our love for model-of-the-moment Meg Collison back in October after clueing into her exquisite Instagram feed (still a must-follow, in our opinion). This shot was taken backstage at Roberto Cavali. Note the oversized accessories. It might be time to start scrolling through eBay for chunky floral necklaces, don’t you think?

Donna Karan: Sharp Hair for Sharp Looks
Here’s a very sculptural hair inspiration found backstage at the Donna Karan show this past New York Fashion Week. The hair perfectly complimented the sleek black and tans displayed on the runway, seen here.

Loosen Up
For the girls that never quite got how to braid their own hair, this look’s for you. One part Botticelli’s Venus, two parts bored college student, this half-attempt at a braid is a great way to look like you’ve made an effort… but, you know, not too much. Allure Magazine (known for their eagle-eye when it comes to great hair and beauty products) has a couple recommendations to accomplish the loose braid look. To create a beachy texture in hair before you lazily twist those locks, look no further than BlowPro Beach Blow Texturizing Mist. Another option for a similar effect? Redken Wool Shake Texturizing Gel. To see how the pros are doing this hair on the runway, click here. And, while we’re at it, we just so happened to find BlowPro on eBay. If you were leaning towards Redken’s offering, you’re in luck; eBay has that, too.

Fit for a Queen
In the last two years, designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli have reinvented the Valentino brand, refocusing their efforts on exquisite femininity and a clear dedication to fits and fabrication, as seen here in this photograph from their SS 2013 show. Their most recent collections exude a sense of wealth and luxury certainly suitable for royalty — young royalty, in particular. We’d sure love to see Kate Middleton throw a little Valentino into the royal rotation.

Tom Ford
After two years of intimate and incredibly exclusive presentations for his eponymous line, Tom Ford is finally staging his first “real” runway show, which will take place during London Fashion Week. Ford cites the expansion of his brand as cause for the shift, with his gorgeous wares now being sold in 100 stores worldwide. He will be a welcome addition to a schedule that can sometimes seem lacking in comparison with the massive brands showcasing in New York, Paris, and Milan. Ford joins the ranks of Matthew Williamson, Vivienne Westwood, Christopher Kane, and Burberry Prorsum. February can’t come soon enough.

eBay Hits Russia

By Jauretsi

Stylist Oksana (pictured above) curated a collection of clothes from eBay and presented the looks at a runway event held for the city’s finest Fashion-philes. Having launched approximately a year ago in Russia, eBay is now a staple in the fashion loving nation and we’re excited to grow in the region. According to Forbes, Moscow has the largest community of billionaires in the world, which means Luxury is alive and well in the fast growing city.

I was honored to DJ the event to a room that… [MORE] began cheerfully moving early in the night. After that, I ducked out with Tumblr’s omnipresent Valentine Uhovski to do the Moscow party rounds. The city is gorgeous with hidden creative cafe’s, underground art galleries, and regal architecture. The whole Chanel family had converged into town to launch Karl Lagerfeld’s The Little Black Jacket exhibit. It was crème de le crème attendance ranging from Vanessa Paradis to Milla Jovovich, who after greeting the crowd in perfect Russian, busted out a rock set with her band. Rocker model Alice Dellal cheered near the stage in one of the best dressed rooms I’ve ever seen.

There is a new fashion icon added to my list of faves (filed beside Daphne Guinness of course). Her name is Uliana Sergeenko, who gracefully stirred through the Chanel party with Russia’s two other “It Girls”, Elena Perminova and Polina Kitsenko (pictured above by Karl Lagerfeld portrait). On my way out of the country, I swung through the Kremlin to pay respects to the buildings that provided so much historical context, including St Basil’s Church. I nabbed a chic little Russian Doll just to remind me of the whirlwind journey through the glorious capital city. Buh-Bye Russia, I’ll be back soon.

Cool Kids in the Front Row
Sitting at Rebecca Minkoff’s show this past week, I looked across the floor only to notice this hip kid rocking a turban while diligently snapping each dress on her iPhone. Make no mistake, she was focused. Sitting beside her was stylist mother, June Ambrose,  who’s worked with names from Alicia Keys to P Diddy. June, who refers to Summer as her “mini-me”, trekked around Fashion Week with the partner-in-crime. In fact, Summer inspires June so much that she named her Selima Capsule Collection frame after her. Careful raising your child with such exquisite taste though. ”She jacked my Marni for H&M pieces as soon as they hit the door” says June. We suspect June has plenty of clothes to give up.

Runway to Real Life: Accessory Ideas Stolen from Spring’s Shows
By Chris Frey
Designers send plenty of accessories down the runway that are doubtless created purely for show. But then there are the pieces, like these, that merit some real world attention. In lieu of it-bags and wait-listed shoes, we bring you the accessories we felt were worthy of a sartorial second glance.
1. Pouch Belts as seen at Michael Kors. Dare we say fanny pack? Call it what you will; this utilitarian piece can look chic.
2. Jet Bead Necklaces as seen at Oscar de la Renta. Black jet bead necklaces played against bold color. When layered the impact is even stronger.
3.  Silver Ankle Boots as seen at Chanel. Substantial sandals or sleek booties are an unexpected seasonal choice.
4. Rimless Sunglasses as seen at Phillip Lim. We love the idea of busting out of our classic aviators rut with a sleek colored lens.
