Happy Birthday, Marc Jacobs!

Marc Jacobs has done a lot of living over the course of fifty years, and we can certainly say that he only looks better and becomes more successful with each passing year. To see the impact this man has had on fashion, you need only dive into the massive catalogue of handbags, shoes, sunglasses, and runway hits on eBay. Happy 50th, Mr. Jacobs. Here’s to another twenty years of ingenuity, creativity, and genuine spectacle. We’re glad you were born.

Staring at the Sun

This season, master showman Marc Jacobs hung a giant orb from the rafters of the Lexington Armory for his FW2013 show. A yellow haze spilled over the audience and his collection, obscuring the details. Then, true to form, Jacobs flipped the switch, turning on the house lights and revealing all. Refinery29 editor Christene Barberich has decided to empty her closet and sell some of her designer goodies, including a few gems she picked up on eBay. “Okay, so our global editor, Connie, told me I was nuts when I snapped these up on eBay,” confesses the fashion writer. “I mean, who didn’t love them when they came down Marc Jacobs’ Spring ‘11 runway? They didn’t quite work on me, but I guarantee some lovely lady will absolutely know how to rock these…AND do them proud.” It’s ok! We’ll take them. Jail Break

This year is going to see the return of some very bold pattern choices. We’re not just talking about the previously seen maxed-out mashup of acid florals and cheetah prints (thank you, Stella McCartney, we really did love your Resort 2013 collection), but something more simplistic and statement worthy: The stripe. When Marc Jacobs sent Ruby Jean Wilson down the runway wearing only knickers and a striped graphic t-shirt for his Spring 2013 show, he unleashed a monster of pent-up desire for prison chic. Case in point: H&M is already hopping on the bandwagon. Above is one of their “Key Pieces” from the Spring / Summer 2013 lookbook.

Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down

This year we’ve really seen the reintroduction of the female tie. One of the most iconic women to transform this masculine fashion piece into one with feminine, intellectual appeal was Diane Keaton in 1977’s Annie Hall. Recently, both Chloë Sevigny and Emmy Rossum took the headstrong look to new places for Miu Miu and Ralph Lauren, respectively. Lucky for us, the design duo Ruffian created two special ties for the eBay Holiday Collection to be released next month (pictured to the left of Rossum). Keep your eye on November 12^th, when these two limited edition ties will be available online at eBay.

The Magic Kingdom at Marc Jacobs

Last night was the big Marc Jacobs show which was considered a roaring success. The primary motif was bold stripes, however, we did notice a nod to the animated legend, Minnie Mouse. The concept of Micky & Minnie Mouse (reignited by Azealia Banks’ breakout video, 212, last year) has reignited the search for the classic Disney sweatshirt. If you’re itchy to grab a classic vintage, eBay has a plethora of Micky and Minnie Mouse sweatshirts.
