There’s nothing quite like being at a runway show. The cameras flashing, the music that rattles the walls, the beautiful people in beautiful clothes — it really is a sight to be seen. For those of us who can’t make the fashion circuit, there are photographers who do a pretty bang-up job making sure we feel like we’re there. “I love eBay,” says Lily Kwong, a student of sociology and urbanism… and self-proclaimed full-time nerd. Vintage is her addiction (she once scored a vintage YSL piece on eBay). We enjoyed her simple yet bold style so we asked Lily what she had on today.

Metal accents started being de rigueur a few seasons ago, but it was mostly on heels and sandals. Yves Saint Laurent’s (when it was still Yves Saint Laurent) Spring 2012 collection had those epic pairs of pumps with the gold plates, which caused Style.com’s Tim Blanks to note, “The shoes! The shoes! Front-rowers Kylie Minogue and Elettra Wiedemann could barely tear their… [MORE] eyes away from the footwear.” Chloe took modern Grecian chic to the next level with pairs of demi-heels and sandals with metal straps about the ankle. Even Lanvin got into the metal cuff game. Giuseppe Zanotti, however, is adding major style to streetwear with these leather sneaks (seen above) featuring gold wraparound bands. And to think this whole time we never knew what our kicks were missing.

Pre-Fall 2013 collections have just begun and one thing is clear: animal prints aren’t going anywhere. From Givenchy cowhide to Lanvin leopard, critters are the print du jour. Above, is a look from Lanvin — a veritable feeding frenzy of three different animal-inspired motifs, playing against one another while remaining oddly complementary. In addition to taking prints to the maximum this season, Lanvin was perfectly luxe with their play of textures, blending wools, furs, silks, and leathers into outfits to die for. Kate Moss could sell me an inflatable raft with a hole in it. Whatever that girl touches turns to gold, in my opinion. It is for this reason that Kate is one of the top-earners in the fashion world. Just last year, she hit number 2 on Forbes list of models raking in the cash. Her career — unlike most — is well into the double digits. Take this picture from Harper’s Bazaar, for instance, taken in 1999, well over a decade ago.
Inspired by Kate and this late 90s shot, I went on a hunt for good trenchcoats. I’ve found some great ones on eBay, for both men and women. For the ladies, there’s this 80s military trench by Dior or an absolutely stunning Lanvin number in camel. For the gents, there’s this rather wonderfully serious double breasted coat from Dior, as well as a more classic trench in gray, also from Dior. I’m sure Miss Kate would approve.

What’s new Pussycat? After years of designers churning out sky-high platforms, it’s time we consider the kitten heel, a shoe previously reserved for sensible business women and grandmothers. This season we’ve seen a healthy range of heel heights. For those dedicated to their five-inch stilettos, there were still plenty of those, don’t worry. I did notice however that the modest and foot-friendly kitten heel has been embraced by everyone from Louis Vuitton to Lanvin. eBay has a few selections from Lanvin to LV to get you started on the sophisticated low riders. Isabel Marant’s studded, rocker chic sandals (pictured above) are actually rock concert friendly. Now that’s a first.

Lanvin just released their Fall/Winter 2012 campaign celebrating “Individuals”. It’s full of characters, real people, and compelling fragments of stream of consciousness. As Lanvin states, it’s “Reality. Not Reality Stars”. One of my favorite brands found in the eBay closet (see dresses or bags or shoes), Lanvin never disappoints with their creative. I’m feeling this trend of character studies. Steven Meisel photographs this campaign while House and Holme acts as Creative Direction. Well done, Lanvin! — Jauretsi
