Big Red

Can you think of a hair color in the last fifteen years that has been more memorable than Milla Jovovich’s character in The Fifth Element? We love the modern take on this fiery look, shown here in Velvet Magazine. If you feel like pulling off this hyper-bright shade on your own, eBay has all the Manic Panic your heart desires.

Model Moment: Chloe Norgaard
With her loud sense of style and that sherbet-colored hair, it’s no wonder that Chloe Norgaard is popping up on the runways this season. Waiting backstage, Chloe sports striped pants, a sporty letterman’s jacket, and a killer pair of fingerless skeleton gloves. Surprising even to us, eBay has tons of them.

Donna Karan: Sharp Hair for Sharp Looks
Here’s a very sculptural hair inspiration found backstage at the Donna Karan show this past New York Fashion Week. The hair perfectly complimented the sleek black and tans displayed on the runway, seen here.

Modern Vintage
The “Veronica Lake” look has been a fashion mainstay since the actress popped on the scene in the ’40s. Modern takes are often quite successful, such as the gorgeous image seen above. The key is a deep part and a 1-inch curling iron (found here on eBay). To read more about how to do this at home, visit The Beauty Department.

Loosen Up
For the girls that never quite got how to braid their own hair, this look’s for you. One part Botticelli’s Venus, two parts bored college student, this half-attempt at a braid is a great way to look like you’ve made an effort… but, you know, not too much. Allure Magazine (known for their eagle-eye when it comes to great hair and beauty products) has a couple recommendations to accomplish the loose braid look. To create a beachy texture in hair before you lazily twist those locks, look no further than BlowPro Beach Blow Texturizing Mist. Another option for a similar effect? Redken Wool Shake Texturizing Gel. To see how the pros are doing this hair on the runway, click here. And, while we’re at it, we just so happened to find BlowPro on eBay. If you were leaning towards Redken’s offering, you’re in luck; eBay has that, too.

Best Brush
Designed by engineer and inventor Mason Pearson in the late 1800s, his namesake brush has been a staple since before the advent of sliced bread, literally. Today, it’s one of the most regularly recommended hairbrushes amongst professionals. Its premium-grade boar bristle (removed from the animal in a cruelty-free manner), is gentle on your hair and scalp, minimizing breakage. And we all know that in winter our locks need all the help they can get. If you’re looking to invest in a better brush, might we recommend checking out the offerings on eBay. We suspect you might find a good deal to complement your future of better hair.

Unintentionally Cool Streaks

By Jauretsi

Current collective conscious is swirling around the concept of color streaks. Backstage this Fashion week, models were prepped with subtle color hints. Oscar de la Renta, Libertine, and Peter Som experimented with this look on the runway while Director Marissa Kaiser filmed model Soo Joo Park for Nowness with color patches created by colorist Aura Friedman. Aura also created the streaks for Peter Som’s show.

The Inside Source asked Aura (who’s worked on artists from M.I.A. to Lady Gaga) the best tip to master this look. “Pick a color you love, one that best suits you skin tone” says the pro colorist. “Try to make the look your own by choosing clever placement. The trend is more about having fun with color, and not necessarily always streaks. Color can be softly painted on the ends of your hair in gradient way from midshaft to ends. It can also be painted somewhere that would enhance the shape and texture of your haircut. It can also be placed close to your eyes to enhance the color of your eyes”. Aura freely ends her hair tip with the ultimate reason to play with color. “The idea of all this fun color is self expression so be creative and free… as Madonna says— Express Yourself”.

Don’t overthink and just be yourself. Peter Som’s locks were created by Wella Professionals. Their inspiration? A downtown girl who’s ”unintentionally cool”. The best part is, it’s close to impossible to mess it up.

Inspired by the Jalousie Tumblr we came across some braids with a punch. Learning any of these inspired styles can take your outfit to “next level” proportions. Of course there’s a myriad of ways one can play on the various techniques. If you’re clueless in the braid department, we just found a “How To” book on eBay. It’s so easy, even a child can master it. — Jauretsi

A Little Curl Goes a Long Way
By Jauretsi
Can you see how spending a few more minutes on the hair makes all the difference? Fear not, eBay has a few curling irons and hair curlers to get this look nailed down. Now all you need is the knowledge how to put it all together. Here’s a few treasure manuals found in stock: Hairstyle of the 1920’s, and Hairstyles of the 1960’s — a veritable cheat-sheet from our maternal ancestors.
