Into the Blue
Forget everything anyone ever told you about using a neutral palate when you’re decorating. The dark blue walls seen here, paired with a sofa of a similar shade, create a dark coziness perfectly suitable for a reading nook or a library (if you’re so fortunate to have one). Brightening up the space here, literally and figuratively, is accomplished with a BL-3 floor lamp by Robert Dudley Best for Gubi. The Bestlite is an iconic silhouette that has been in use since the 1930s. You can find some classic examples of these on eBay.

Roundabout
Though Emilio Pucci’s artistic director reportedly flies back and forth between Paris and Florence for work everyday, Peter Dundas still keeps a pretty impressive pad near the Pucci headquarters just in case. Seen here is the gorgeous wooden staircase in his 15th-century palazzo apartment. Now that’s something we wish we could find on eBay.

I Spy: Headboard
It’s hard to take your eyes off of Sophia Loren — seen here in a photograph by Terry O’Neill circa 1965 — but we couldn’t help but notice the gorgeous woven headboard behind her. As luck would have it, we found similar pieces on eBay using the phrase “vintage cane headboard.” Click here to see.

The Sunny Side
It’s freezing everywhere right now so we may as well wrap ourselves up in blankets, hunker down in our toasty apartments and live vicariously through this photograph of Lindsey Wixon by Venetia Scott. The whole editorial (seen here) is pure ’70s gold, as seen with these lounge chairs. We did some digging and found a set of funky, flower-power Finkel patio chairs on eBay. Finkel was apparently popular back then; check out these modern, mid-century patio chairs they designed in pink. Last but not least, by any means, here’s a Vladimir Kagan chaise lounge selling for $1,250.

Open Spaces
What do you do when you’ve got 2000 square feet of empty loft to fill? Anything you want. This place reminds of us of a chic little flop house, complete with badly positioned sofas, antelope taxidermy, and a disco ball. There’s something kind of wonderful about how haphazard everything has been thrown together, down to the crooked picture frames. If you have a ton of space you just don’t know what to do with… [MORE], perhaps follow their lead. It’s an anything-goes approach to decorating that just might be the counter-balance to the hyper-articulated interior design culture we live in right now. To help you on your way, we’ve found everything you’ll need on eBay: a giant disco ball, a selection of sofas from the ’70s, and all the antelope mounts you could hope for.

Take a Seat
One can never have too many chairs. Okay, maybe that’s not true (especially in a New York studio). But chairs are one of those versatile items that don’t take up too much space but, man, can they pack a punch. Take for instance these midcentury stacking chairs on eBay, or the wide variety of Eames seating you’ll find as well. Here’s a set of French Art Deco club chairs from the ’40s that look pretty fantastic.

Acne Studios Opens in Tokyo

By Jenny Bahn

To the delight of those craving Sweden’s favorite fashion-meets-rock-and-roll brand a little further from home, Acne Studios has just opened their first flagship store in Asia. Located in the Aoyama district of Tokyo, the shop was designed to be a “home within a store.” And who wouldn’t want their home to look like this? Acne, with their signature dusty rose shopping bags, has been routinely able to imbue the feminine with the masculine, and vice versa. Never one to shy away from softer shades, the store works with an adept combination of pastels and faded jewel tones, like a castle left to bleach in the sun. Interior designers, take note.
