Save for the “1%ers” of the world, most of us can’t afford diamond necklaces… and that’s why costume jewelry exists. The intention is still there (to look a little bit gauche and a whole lot fabulous), but the price tag has a few zeros shaved off the end. eBay has a ton — and I mean a ton — of costume jewelry. If you’re looking for quantity, you can buy it in lots and sift through your winnings. For those just looking for one special piece, however, the process can sometimes be overwhelming. Here’s a solution: Type in “heirloom.” It’s one of the best filters for vintage jewelry you can use. “Heirloom” assumes that the piece has been passed down a few generations and has been worth keeping up until now. Their loss is certainly your gain in this instance. So head on over to eBay and check out my search for vintage heirloom costume jewelry, and if you’re lucky, you’ll score this gorgeous necklace from the ’50s for $80.
