Dior Wars
By Sade Lythcott
It’s official. The Dior lightsaber has officially been passed from John Galliano to Raf Simons. Nostalgic as some might be for the the frivolity and irreverence of Galliano, Dior couldn’t be in more deserving hands. Read this December’s Vogue article on Simons to get to know the designer and his aesthetic better. In the article, Raf expresses his great humility about such an important opportunity as the new creative director of Dior. In the article, he gives homage to his roots. “I am super proud of my parents—my mother was a cleaning lady, and my father was a night watchman in the army,” says Simons, “and now I stand in this world, and yeah, it’s a bourgeois environment, in a house that’s seen in France as the most important position in fashion, along with Chanel. But I don’t care about that. What I find amazing is that it’s a beautiful house where I can make clothes to make women happy. I was raised in a very happy nest by very happy people, and I like to think that those are enough ingredients to make me succeed at Dior.”
We wish Simons the best of luck. Check out Simons first collection for Dior here. Thoughts?

“Colors are wonderful and glamorizing - but they must be used with care. Even the prettiest color, if you wear it every day, will lose its effect. Color needs change. We wouldn’t appreciate blue skies if they were always blue, it is the clouds, the ever-changing scene, that makes the sky so beautiful.” - Christian Dior
