Mad Respect: Refinery 29’s Christene Barberich
In 2005, the digital fashion world was blessed with a website called Refinery29 (check out the new redesign this week). Serving as their Editor-in-Chief since it’s inception, Christene Barberich has steadfast delivered strong and tasty editorials, always stepping up her game for us hungry readers. An admitted eBay junkie, we’re always on the look out for Christene’s finds since she manages to surprise and delight us every time. The Inside Source asked the multi-talented writer a few questions about her summer inspirations.
Jauretsi: What is your manifesto for life?
Christene Barberich: You have to choose to be happy. My aunt taught me this, and it changed my life.

Celine gold cuff bracelet
Vintage brocade or embroidered Dries Van Noten coats…the weirder the better.
J: Name your Summer Inspiration songs for August

How Did I Not See This on eBay Myself?
Refinery29 editor Christene Barberich has decided to empty her closet and sell some of her designer goodies, including a few gems she picked up on eBay. “Okay, so our global editor, Connie, told me I was nuts when I snapped these up on eBay,” confesses the fashion writer. “I mean, who didn’t love them when they came down Marc Jacobs’ Spring ‘11 runway? They didn’t quite work on me, but I guarantee some lovely lady will absolutely know how to rock these…AND do them proud.” It’s ok! We’ll take them. If you’re craving these bold and courageous pants, visit the Refinery Closet to grab these for $70 (she’s got mad other pieces for sale, too).

We Love You Too Christene Barberich
By Jauretsi
This Fashion week, Editor in Chief of Refinery29 Christine Barberich has been documenting her daily looks online. Pretty smart. I was tickled to see a loving natural shout-out to eBay. ”I love that two of my looks are almost completely vintage, which is very me” writes the creative dresser. “This somewhat kooky printed dress is by Adele Simpson, a brilliant designer from the ’50s, whom along with Pauline Trigére, I adore. It’s not always easy to find her pieces in such great condition—and with such modern lines—so this dress, also from eBay, was a total score for around $200. I imagine I’ll have loads of fun wearing it in my older, more eclectic period…which seems to be fast approaching.”

Then there is the other look, my fav. with the striking red purse. ”I am proud to say that I found this vintage navy Norma Kamali suit on eBay (and for a grand total of $40!). It didn’t need any tailoring at all, and the ’80s uniform vibe really appeals to me.” From complex prints to straight color, we send a little applause for putting it all together.
