Postcards from China: Chris Benz & Duck Fever

This December, we’re proud to announce eBay’s launch in China. One of our eBay Holiday Collective Designers, Chris Benz, visited the nation this month and sent us a new shopping obsession: “I’m in love with Chinese duck figurines!” he exclaims. Here’s 2 finds he searched on eBay just for our readers, first a pair of Chinese Green Turquoise Duck Figurines, and secondly, a pair of Late 19th Century Chinese Porcelain Turquoise Duck Figurines. Postcards from China: Chris Benz & Chinese Lingo

Chinese language can seem overwhelming. If you don’t know any words at all, well, here’s a short lesson. Designer Chris Benz (on his voyage to China for eBay’s launch) maxed out at 2 words. ”I didn’t make it much past “nihou”(hi or hello) and “xie xie” (thank you). It’s such a tricky language!” It’s ok, Chris, that’s two more words than we knew before. Oh, one more fact. If you add “ma” to the end of their hello, it means how are you doing today? In other words “ni hao ma?”. Probably a good thing to ask your stewardess before that long flight.

Grace Kelly Loved to Travel

Go Sasha and Your Awesome Chris Benz Skirt!

Last night was an extraordinary evening as the new American President was announced almost one hour early than expected. The world cheered in unison, including national broadcasts of wild dancing on Kenyan streets! During Obama’s glorious acceptance speech, the world soaked in the fashionable Obama daughters.

Malia wore a rich smoky blue skirt which matched perfectly with Barack’s tie… an adorable choice. Malia’s pencil thin hot pink belt cinched the outfit with class. Sasha however stood out on her own with a unique choice, a Chris Benz green hydrangea-printed organza party skirt. “It’s from awhile ago” says the designer. “It’s from a collection that was really all about having fun!” Just like all of Chris’ pieces, this particular skirt is “perfect on anyone looking to celebrate” says the joyful designer. Embrace Earthiness

I’m scratching days off of my calendar in anticipation of the Chris Benz and Ruffian limited edition items to be sold on eBay this November 12th. The pieces belong to a special capsule collection created and released by eBay (think seven awesome designers in total).

Both Ruffian and Chris Benz created scarves in clean neutrals, although Chris designed his with a floral pattern on the reverse side. We suggest you follow Chris’s lead and cleverly mix your tans with shades of orange, green, and light pink — [MORE] all making for a sweet transition into fall/winter season. The goal is to have a neutral base with at least one strong pop of color, whether it’s on the lips or sprinkling in any one of the accessories above. The leaf necklace is the golden touch that drives the earth spirit all the way home.

Christmas in July with our eBay Holiday Designers

This week, eBay finally revealed the new product freshly announced last week with a party for friends and family in the media and designer world. The exclusive eBay Holiday Collective event revealed product the room adorned with wooden reindeers, white lights, and clever displays. “We love Christmas in July!” gushed Ruffian, one of the Collective designers. We do too, so why not get into the cheer early? I was lucky enough to DJ the event spinning classics like Carla Thomas’ “Gee Whiz its Christmas” while the team of designers — Chris Benz, Tibi, Steven Alan, Ruffian, Billy Reid, Jonathan Adler and Fallon— worked the room and dipped into the Peppermint eclairs and Gingerbread Chocolate Macaroons from Dominique Ansel Bakery. It was a night of toasting glasses and [MORE] checking out fine goods.

For just a few hours on Wednesday night, we all forgot about the summer heat wave sizzling outside the Fashion District doors. Speaking of supporting the Fashion District, you’ll be happy to know that 100% of our collection was created in the US. The Limited Edition exclusive Capsule Collection drops on eBay November 12, 2012, so set your watches. Til then, start making your wish lists!
