Located in the Bernese Oberland, the 200-year-old Swiss chalet housing this blue-hued reading nook was lovingly restored by Bergdorf and Nick Ruef. The space has maintained its old, wooden bones, but has been given a contemporary face-lift with splashes of mint paint, spartan furniture, and modern lighting, like the lamp seen here. Forget everything anyone ever told you about using a neutral palate when you’re decorating. The dark blue walls seen here, paired with a sofa of a similar shade, create a dark coziness perfectly suitable for a reading nook or a library (if you’re so fortunate to have one). Brightening up the space here, literally and figuratively, is accomplished with a BL-3 floor lamp by Robert Dudley Best for Gubi. The Bestlite is an iconic silhouette that has been in use since the 1930s. You can find some classic examples of these on eBay.

In between images of the personal artwork uploaded to Mya Kerner’s Tumblr page, you’ll find thought-provoking quotes from luminaries like Pablo Neruda and Henry David Thoreau. It makes sense, really, in that her own work is a form of poetic expression in itself. Whether it be purposefully scorched pieces of wood or texturized, frothy paintings of water like the ones seen above, Kerner engages in a dialogue with life and nature. As viewers, we just get to reap the benefits of that conversation.

Newsflash: The holidays are over, dear friends. Everyone’s putting away their Christmas lights, throwing away the trees. Winter’s chill isn’t nostalgic and charming any longer; it’s just simply cold. Is it wrong to be dreaming of surf and sunshine already? For those of you living in or traveling to warmer, more beachy locales, this post is for you. This gorgeous snap of actress Clemence Poesy sporting a Rodarte sweater and clutching a well-waxed board has us hankering for a tropical vacation. We’ve got the shades, now we just need the board. Good thing eBay has a slew of used and new boards from which we can choose. Oh, we’ll also need an invite… and some more vacation days.

Once again, here’s an otherwise white space featuring splashes of color applied with restraint — a little blue here, a little seafoam green there. I’m especially fond of the cobalt chair and sofa. The hints of bold color in this abode make the space seem less washed-out, anchoring the room with some solid saturation. I found a similar chair on eBay with a richer tone of blue and a handy matching ottoman… just in case you were looking.
