Gloria Vanderbilt Had Her Turntable Too
If you still don’t own a turntable, you’re missing out on all that magical fun of slipping a record out of its sleeve, manually placing it down, and lifting the arm of a needle with careful precision. The reward is a sexy snap, crackle, pop of an old sound emanating from your speakers into your home. Maybe we’re just music nerds, but analog just sounds better.
Here we have goddess of the original high waist disco jeans, Gloria Vanderbilt (above) playing her ”Songs of Old Vienna” by Richard Tauber in August of 1954. This Summer, we suggest something more esoteric like, say, Dark Side of the Moon (starting at $7.50). The lovely folks at Bureau of Trade scoured eBay to find the best vintage turntables for your home right now. The Thorens Turntable (1) bid begins at $249, whereas the Marantz Turntable (4) is a “buy it now” for $225. Look for the others in their curated selection, “Don’t Skip a Beat” for exact links to these turntables.
