Shop Like an Insider: Twenty8Twelve’s Elsa Elphick
By Bee-Shyuan Chang
The London-based contemporary line Twenty8Twelve is entering a new chapter with designer Elsa Elphick. Elphick, a Harrow School of Art alum, has been the head designer for a few seasons already, and beginning with the Fall 2012 collection, is officially running the show. We chatted with the native of the seaside town of Penarth, South Wales on fall inspiration, personal style icons and spring shopping.
Q: The Twenty8Twelve brand is based in London. Do you take inspiration from the local street style you see?
A: We always refer to youth culture and ways of dressing, but usually from the past. When I look at my youth, I feel as though I spent the whole time trying to stand out.
[MORE]Q: Who are some modern day style icons that stand out, or just always seem to get it right?
A: Tilda Swinton, who I think always looks incredible. She can carry off avant-garde like it’s a pair of comfortable pajamas.
Q: On your own personal style… How would you describe it?
A: Black bob and a lipstick. The rest is a uniform of monochrome comfort.
Q: Have you shopped eBay before?
A: Constantly. I usually hover over my husband’s shoulder; he is permanently attached to it! He recently bought me beautiful Savile Row jodhpurs and even a Land Rover last year.
Here are some eBay items inspired by Elsa’s favorite searches and product obsessions:
1. Jodphurs / 2. Oversized pattern sweater / 3. Strapless dress with peplum / 4. Chunky cable knit sweater / 5. Vintage shirt dress
